For Undead mesmer, I'll say what I also said in the Off-Topic thread:

Delphi in Ancient Greece was the site of the oracle of the god Apollo. People went there to ask questions, and received answers from someone called the Pythia (who supposedly spoke the words of Apollo). Since the Pythia usually talked quietly and in riddles, there were scribes to write down her message.
